I love unusual holidays and February has some really good ones, like Extraterrestrial Culture Day (2/7) and Toothache Day (2/9). But I think my favorite is this Saturday’s Make a Friend Day! Though we should strive to meet new people and make new friends all the time, it’s great that there is an actual day of observance.
Friends are a source of strength when life gets you down. Plus who else but a friend can make you laugh so hard you cry? Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best, “It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.”
In a way, friends are the batteries that help recharge our lives. So how could you go wrong with making new friends?! Of course you could go online Saturday and scoop up a bunch of Facebook friends but then you’d be missing the point.
Speaking of new friends, the Gamesville staff met some new friends on January 22nd when we sponsored game night at the Providence Bruins in Providence, RI. The arena had over 7,000 hockey fans in attendance and many of them stopped by our table to learn more about GV and Pirate Cove Bingo. Also three lucky new friends went home as winners! L. Gill of RI is now enjoying her new Kindle Fire! Plus, M. Dinn of MA and M. Burgess of RI are $50 richer!
I know I am a bit cheesy for suggesting this but I hope everyone takes a moment on Saturday to be a little more friendly or helpful to those you meet. Because we could all use a friend. (cue the Golden Girls theme)

I agree Felix..I hope everyone joins in on Saturday..I have made soo many new friends here on Gamesville and hopefully will be able to make a few more. Lets all make MDF really mean MY DEAR FRIEND on Saturday and maybe it will continue..How about it ya’ll??

Way cool on your trip to RI i would have love to have been a witness to it. Btw, I love the Golden Girls. What I also wish I had known was the ET Day! LOL. Now the Toothache Day I don’t believe I will ever celebrate. Snort!
(did I spell that right? lol)
Thank you your Cheesiness for sharing.

Thanks for the info Felix and I am with you Retha – never want to celebrate toothache day!! ET day, now that has potential lol. As for Saturday being observed and recognized as “Make a friend day” I think it should be an effort to make a friend everyday. I have seen this on somewhere and not sure who is credited for the quote but it said “be kind to everyone you meet for you never know if there could be a chance that they are an angel in disguise’ I don’t think I quoted it correctly but I did get the main point across. I have many aquaintances, dozens of friends and several truly trusted, tried and true, devoted and loyal friends whom I love unconditionally. A few I was blessed meeting here and they know who they are and I love them unconditionally. What I loved best about your post Felix was your Ralph Emerson Waldo quote! I love it. God knows that I have tons of fun getting stupid with my friends. One last thing, my favorite quote is “We may not have it all together, but together we have it all” I believe that that is anonymous and I can’t remember where I saw it or heard it but it speaks volumes! I just love that quote and spookyjane’s snorts too! Have a great night all. Love, laughter and tons of luck to all as always. Have fun!!

Hey Everyone found a poem don’t know who wrote it but though you guys might like it
CYBER FRIENDS
There’s a land where I go when I need to share
That’s not on a map, yet exists everywhere
A land of names without faces, a curious place
A modern creation thats called cyber-space.
There’s all sorts of people with cute little names
Like Pookie, and Sandman and Rosebud and Flames.
Some are just snobs and some are real fun.
And some of them just want to find someone.
But both good and bad they all play a role.
Still each one unique, but part of the whole.
We talk and laugh and wonder why.
We flirt and hug and sometimes cry.
We can’t be heard and can’t be seen.
Yet, there it is, right on our screen.
But all in all the most curious part
The the power it has to open our heart.
To share with a stranger those things we’ve concealed
Which to our closest of friends we’d never reveal.
Our deepest regrets and most troubling fears
The scars in our life which bring us to tears.
What gives them the power to reach into me
and show me the truths that I never see
How do they manage to open my eyes
And make me confess the deceit and the lies.
I don’t understand this magical spell.
But I know that without it my life would be hell.
This must have been planned by the Creator up above.
Cause there’s no place on earth where you’ll find as much love
When I need direction I know I can find,
those angels from heaven just waiting online.

Thanks Cani for posting this poem. You have no idea how timely your poem and this post is. I love knowing I have Gamesville to go to when things in life go really wrong, like this week has been.
We are going through a bad time right now, as we have lost two people in our extended family. One was 25 yrs old and the other was his daughter who was only 3 yrs old. It has been a very bad time for this family, as they lost a daughter to the same type of motor vehicle accident only 2 1/2 years ago. She was only 24 yrs old at the time. Everyone is rallying around the family and they have all of us to lean on in times like this. For those who would like to say a prayer, please pray for this family who has suffered so much heartache and loss.
I love the picture of the kitties and the Make A Friend day for tomorrow, That is what this site is all about. It has been there when I had a bad year last year and things have finally turned around for us. I found a great job. Although I wish it were full time rather than part time and paid a little better, it is a wonderful place to work and worth the wait for. And it looks like things are going to work out with our house, as our lawyer is going to try to work with the mortgage company so we can keep this place.
Thanks again Gamesville for this site and Cani for your wonderful poem.

And as a follow up, I just won $500.00 through our local Fox station. They pulled my name and I had 20 minutes to call them. I was so excited I almost forgot my phone number when she asked.
See, it pays to enter contests. You never know.
Now, if I could win QDP or one of the bigger jackpot games on here that I play frequently….
And if our newest angels in Heaven had something to do with, I just want to say thank you Jeff and Kylie.

I love some of these wacky/obscure celebrated days during the year, tomorrow (Saturday, February 11th) is Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day. The site states “Today is a day to recognize that s_ _ _ happens and when it does, don’t worry, or fret, or cry over it. Instead, take a positive attitude and fix it, or get past it.” I would hope that their official song is Bobby McFerrin’s, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”
February 16th is Do a Grouch a Favor Day, too bad we can’t individually send Gamesville GVs to grouches or those deserving some extra TLC. On second thought, maybe grouches should pay us GV reward points. A few more….
July 8th is National Video Games Day (We should all get bonus GV rewards on this day)
April 11th is 8-Track Tape Day (I loved my little mini Craig 8-track player, I had it mounted on the floor (circa 1975) under the driver’s seat in my Triumph Spitfire but does anyone own or actually use an 8-track anymore?
May 11th is Twilight Zone Day (Somewhere Rod Serling is flashing that wonderful creepy smile while smoking a cigarette)
May 17th is Pack Rat Day (I wonder if pack rats can find their calendars)
May 31st is National Macaroon Day (I’m not sure but I think that’s a Latin dance) “Hey, Macaroona!”
Good luck & have fun.
