The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the metal band Quiet Riot, was found dead in his Las Vegas home this past weekend. He was 52.
Quiet Riot is best known for its 1983 album Metal Health which featured "Bang Your Head (Metal Health)" and a remake of British rock band Slade's "Cum On Feel the Noize". (The live version of "Cum On Feel the Noize" is below.)
Funeral plans have not yet been finalized. But the staff of Gamesville.com will be wearing our zebra pants today to mourn the passing of this prominent figure of our formative years.

My two favorite bands when I was a teenager were Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot. I felt that they had their own unique qualities (for Twisted Sister, besides the fact that they had make-up on and wild clothes) that set them apart. I hung posters of both bands in my bedroom but I had a full size poster of Quiet Riot on my bedroom door with a big picture of Kevin on it. I admit that I had a crush on him because he had the most beautiful eyes and wonderful smile I had ever seen. I don’t remember which video I saw first “Cum on Feel the Noize”, or “Metal Health” but once I saw both videos – I was hooked.
I was very shy and introverted so I didn’t go to any Quiet Riot concerts (I knew my parents would never let me go alone) but I finally got to see them here in Vegas a few years ago. I even got to meet Kevin and the band. I was so nervous around him I didn’t tell him I had a crush on him. Now I wish I did.
I loved his voice. He enunciated his words very well. I hate singers that belt out their songs but you can’t understand a word they are yelling.
When Quiet Riot released “Quiet Riot” in 1988 I was so thrilled! Another album….until I heard it. I wondered -Where’s Kevin? Then I saw that Kevin was not the lead singer and Quiet Riot got Paul Shortino. Nope. That doesn’t work for me. It’s Kevin or nothing so I took the cassette back to the music store.
I will dearly miss Kevin. I am not a “number one fan” of Quiet Riot but they were one of my first loves of rock and roll. I wish there were more singers like him but for now, I guess I will just have to break out my old Quiet Riot albums and enjoy (except “Quiet Riot” see reason above).
My condolences to his family, to the band members and everyone associated with Quiet Riot and to the other fans of one of the greatest lead singers ever.
