This just in from the Gamesville Department of Useless Facts & Figures… Tourists from all over the world come year 'round to see the mighty, majestic Niagara Falls–but did you know that in March of 1948 those raging waters came to an abrupt halt?
For 30 hours, Niagara Falls stopped flowing: the river was bone dry and many brave and/or crazy people were able to walk the rock floor with impudence. Why did this happen? High winds farther up the chain lodged millions of tons of ice at the source of the river, blocking the channel. When the ice finally dislodged, the river started to flow again–with a vengeance–and the people strolling the rock floor got out of the way right quick.
