At the Gamesville Blog, our team of crack reporters (or is that, cracked reporters?) keeps an eye out for weird stories that come across the news wires. Here's one from our friends at Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald:
The Longs don't often see rattlesnakes in their manicured backyard behind a yellow farmhouse near Masonville. But last week, a rattler slithered onto the rocks in their yard and into the path of their 1-year-old grandson, Booker West.
As Booker splashed his hands in a birdbath in the yard, and as his grandfather, Monty Long, watched him, both unaware of the snake, the rattler poised, standing tall. It rattled and then it struck.
But the family's Chihuahua, 5-pound, mellow, blond, 1-year-old Zoey, threw herself in front of Booker, taking rattlesnake fangs to the head and face. [...] Zoey's yelp brought Monty running to scoop up the baby.
"(Zoey) took the bite for him," he said. "If I hadn't been paying attention to her yipe telling me something was wrong, (Booker) would have been next."
And for her efforts, Zoey earned a face the size of a grapefruit, a trip to the veterinarian’s office, antivenin and morphine shots and a scar that cuts vertically across her head. She almost lost an eye.
[...]
"These little bitty dogs, they just don't really get credit," Denise said.

By "people", are you speaking to the players here at Gamesville? If so, I'm sure we would all respond with a resounding "YES!" to your suggestion.
Imagine, lots of games all paying cash to the winners. Hmmm . . . sounds vaguely familiar . . . kind of like before Lycos bought the site. Years ago, all the games had cash prizes. You could stop in every day and actually win a few dollars.
There was a totally different atmosphere back in those days. The camaraderie was awesome, it was relaxing, and lots of fun. After Lycos bought them, everything changed. I feel like they are geared more toward the video game crowd than towards the people who used to gather and play bingo zone.
I see people in the chat rooms saying "well I guess they can't let the $4,999 go because they didn't make enough money on their advertising this month" and I nearly choke on my coffee. Lycos bought Gamesville a few years back and if my old and decrepit mind can remember correctly, they paid over $200 million for it. They could let the jackpot go once a day and not miss it.
It gets depressing watching people trying to win 3 eyed bingo. They sit here for hours and hours without a break, some get very angry if the person who finally wins hasn't put in as much time as they have playing this month. Sometimes you can't even get people to say "hello", you can cut the tension with a knife.
I know it's free to play and people may tell me to keep my opinions to myself. Beggars can't be choosers they say but I know an evening doesn't go by without somebody bringing up "remember when we could win five bucks?" and there would be a lot of happy players if we could do that again.
